A useful Footnote to Patients About Podiatrists and Foot and Ankle Specialists

Why does your sprained ankle still hurt? You may still have foot and ankle pain because the injury has not fully recovered. Even though a sprain is not the same as a break, could be often more painful and will often take longer to treat. Many people report having foot and ankle pain for times or months before fully recovering from a injury. Although we can go about out daily routines; going to work, shopping, cooking etc, many times because the ankle has not fully recovered (shown by tenderness or swollenness) it leaves a larger percentage chance of a second injury. Foot and ankle pain caused by a sprained ankle always be treated just as seriously as if from a broken ankle.

So how do proceeding about recovering from a sprained ankle. Well, acquiring most injuries, RICE is recommended, but only for your first 48 hours. Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation can reduce foot and ankle pain for the main two days as well as prevent swelling and aid in the procedure However after 48 hours RICE loses its effectiveness and your left only with “R” – basically resting till the ankle heals itself. Most people (as I used to), simple judged their healing because when many normal things may do. Yesterday they couldn’t go to work, today they could. Today it took you a while to walk up the stairs,, maybe in several days it will be easier. Foot and ankle pain is just considered part of the healing process.

But now I in order to take an extra proactive choice. Although rest is a normal functioning part of recovery from your injury, rehabilitation is very important. When you don’t start moving that ankle around, the muscles will become static, lose strength, visualize new and different will take more time get to be able to you old self. I had a nurse recommend massaging the ankle (firm but are still not rough), stretching, and small exercises develop up electrical power. Although initially I resisted, thinking it would only make my foot and ankle pain worse, she finally convinced me and Having been surprised at the amazing last! The idea is any time you don’t push you to ultimately recover, your ankle needs the easy road to recover several state of just what’s a necessity. I mean that an individual can walk up an airplane of stairs, but may refine feel the load in your ankle, jeopardize your health . that you walk up, but wouldn’t it be better if fashion run moving up?

That’s why when I sprained my ankle several months ago, after the 48 hour resting period I immediately began exercising my rearfoot. Nothing stressful of course.maybe walking to the kitchen, returning to “draw invisible circles” with my big toe, on one foot, and other simple but painful exercises. In just a full week I was walking and down stairs with little pain and in two weeks time jogging when again. The ankle stayed swollen for a long time on the other hand continued with massages as well as the size eventually returned to normalcy. Much faster recover than anything I read online.
